Chase Freedom® 5% Cash Back Categories for 2013
Commentary: This year was one of the best years of all time for credit card rewards especially from the Chase Freedom card. We especially loved the gas station at five percent and grocery store spending because gas prices were so high and groceries can really add up each month if you have a family. We still do not understand the theme parks because who spends that much on theme parks unless you are going to Disney World and you can normally just get a Disney branded card if you are going all out on that. The Amazon.com we really took advantage of and planned around it to order up major electronics items such as a new plasma tv that month and earned a tax-free 5% back. We also loved the restaurants because we enjoy going to bars and having beers when we travel so those normally come up as dining and gave us the 5%. If this category is not up we use the INK branded cards.

Compare the new 2012 categories to last year 2011 and you will find some similarities but also a lot more gas with the new year. Chase might be bringing back the Perfect Card in a way by this sudden gas spend 5% cash back. They want you to fill up your tank with this card and this card only. Although, it may turn out harder than thought for Chase because Discover is copying them on the up to $1,500 of gas and on the Amazon purchases. Discover Card categories improved more for 2012.
