Costco American Express gives you 3% for Gas and to Dine-Out

American Express has been hiding one of my favorite credit cards for years. If you are a Costco shopper you know you must use American Express at this wholesale club. Since there are many American Express cards to choose from why not pick the one that actually gives you money back at Costco. The TrueEarnings Card from Costco and American Express brings you more than a card you can only make in-store purchases of tires, pharmacy goods, or optical purchases. You can earn a full three percent back when dining out at restaurants and pay no annual fee. In addition, the Costco American Express card grants you a two percent back on travel purchases which you rarely see in any credit card. This card makes sense as a business credit card, personal travel card, and card to make warehouse purchases. You may also use this American Express card on the Costco website to make online purchases. While most rewards cards have caps there is no limit to the cash back earned.

How do I apply to be a Costco Member?

If you goto Costco.com you will see in the upper right hand corner a navigation link that says membership. Click on the membership and you will see four different options. You may also call 1-800-220-6000 to apply for a membership or make a purchase online and add the membership to your cart.

What are the types of Costco Memberships?

The Gold Star Memberhship for personal and business are $50.00. The executive is fifty dollars more a year but give you 2% back rewards on Costco purchases. This reward comes annually and you may use your American Express TrueEarnings Card to get an additional 1% on Costco purchases. The executive membership also includes lower prices on auto financing and check printing.

Is the Costco American Express Card better than the Sam's Discover?

Yes, You earn up to a certain percentage with the Sam's Club Discover compared to a full 1% back with the Costco TrueEarnings Card. If you prefer a stronger savings on gas purchases then we recommend the Discover Gas Card which pays a full 5% on gas. Another limitation of the Costco True Earnings card is that the rebate is awarded annually in the form of an in-store coupon redeemable for merchandise or cash at any U.S. Costco Warehouse. You basically have to wait a year to get your reward.
