Delta SkyMiles Credit Card

The Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card rates the same as the American Airlines card but you add up double points faster for everyday shopping. With this card you earn at least 1 SkyMile for every eligible dollar that you spend like you do with most but you also get the prestige of carrying an American Express card which is always the most classy way to impress that date or business client. American Express recently made the Delta Skymiles card more tempting with bonus miles for additional cardmembers and fee-free for the first year.

Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card Delta Skymiles PLATINUM
  • Earn 20,000 bonus SkyMiles® (including 5,000 Medallion Qualification Miles) after first purchase
  • Earn 2,500 for adding an Additional Cardmember
  • Earn one companion Coach Class ticket each year upon renewal (which basically pays for the card)
  • Qualifying Delta and Northwest purchases you can automatically earn two miles for every eligible dollar spend
  • Earn at least 1 mile for every eligible dollar spent
  • Miles never expire and there is no cap on the miles you can earn
  • Pay with Miles: Pay for all or part of your flight with miles – and put the rest on your Card
  • Express Approval.  Get a decision in less than 60 seconds.

(Annual Fee of $150, but you get a free companion ticket each year)

New Pay with Miles feature. Now your customers can redeem miles for any Delta seat, any time at Delta.com. Pay with Miles is an exclusive new benefit for Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Cardmembers that goes above and beyond to help ensure that your customers' miles work the way they want them to pay for all or part of the fare with miles and put the rest on the Card; shoppers can start redeeming at just 10,000 miles.

Do you own a small to medium sized business? You can now get the business version of the Delta Skymiles card fee free for the first year and earn an additional 15,000 points on top of the personal card points you earned if you applied for that card. Why not double up on the points and get both cards? The Delta Skymiles Business card from American Express also gives you the benefit of OPEN for Small Business where you can save 5% at Courtyard Marriott locations and Fed Ex Kinkos.

If you do not mind paying a steep annual fee of $450 then the next card presents itself a better way to earn Medallion Qualifying miles.  Delta Reserve from American Express is different than the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Credit Card because some people just simply prefer their annual travel voucher to be in First-Class.  With this card you can earn up to 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) after your first purchase. My favorite bonus is an annual companion certificate good for either First-Class or Coach-Class domestic travel.

Delta Reserve Credit Card Delta Skymiles PLATINUM
  • Annual First-Class companion certificate, which can be used for a First-Class or Coach-Class ticket!
  • Earn up to 10,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs) after your first purchase
  • Unparalleled Built-in Miles Boost— earn up to 30,000 MQMs and 30,000 bonus miles
  • Keep or gift these earned MQMs to friends or family members
  • Complimentary Delta Sky Club (formerly Crown Room Club) access for you and two guests
  • Access to American Express® Concierge Services
  • Double Miles on Delta and Northwest Purchases
  • Pay with Miles— pay for all or part of any Delta flight with your miles

Explanation of the Delta Skymiles Program

Want 30,000 bonus Delta Skymiles? Your best best is to obtain a NO Annual Fee Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card to get an additional 15,000 miles after you make your first purchase. Get an approval decision from American Express in 60 seconds.

Do you own a small business? Then look at the many credit cards offered by AMEX including a Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card where you can earn points for your business travel and keep all your expenses on one card to make it easy for when tax time comes around. Check out our section for business credit cards.

When do Delta Skymiles expire? Miles expire after two calendar years of no account activity. This was recently changed from 36 months.

Delta Skypoints or Skymiles? There used to be two flavors of the Delta card that was confusing to most because they had SkyMiles and Skypoints.  The Skypoints card is no longer available.  If you carry the card the Skypoints can be converted to Skymiles.

Information on Delta Skymiles and the pending Delta Bankruptcy:

Delta Skymiles recently sent us a letter stating the following: Dear Cardmember,

In response to the changing financial pressures of the airline industry, Delta Air Lines has announced that it is restructuring its organization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. During this reorganization period, Delta will remain open for business and will continue operations as usual. Delta has expressed its commitment to providing customers with a high standard of service, noting that none of the organizational changes will affect the SkyMiles® program. On behalf of American Express, we'd like to share some additional information with you.

As a valued Cardmember, you can continue to enjoy the outstanding benefits of your Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card, earning SkyMiles for your purchases(1), and redeeming those miles for flights on Delta Air Lines and many of its travel partners — Continental Airlines, Northwest Airlines, and other SkyTeam® partners. Moreover, we encourage you to continue to take advantage of these and many more features of your Card (stated above in bullets).

Looking for ways to earn more miles from Delta Skymiles? Try adding your cell phone bill to your Delta Skymiles credit card, shopping for groceries with your card and earning double points. You can also eat out at Idine restaurants in your area and earn points. Check out Idine for more information on registering your Delta Gold card. You can fly ComAir and earn Delta Skymiles and they are also partnered with other niche airlines: Aeromexico, Air France, Alitalia, Korean Air and CSA Czech. Rental car partners include Alamo, Avis, Dollar, Europcar, Hertz, National and Thrifty. Hotel partners include most major hotel chains that can add to your Skymiles and you can even double dip with the Hilton chain of hotels.

Consumer reviews of Delta Skymiles:

Delta Airlines is my standby with a great volume of flights to choose from both domestically and internationally.  My favorite destination is France and my preference is to fly with the national airline of the country where I will be vacationing.  Delta makes this easily possible, all with skymiles that easily transfer to Air France.  The same would be true with most travel destinations.  I find the Delta agents consistently friendly and helpful. Most flights are timely and clean.  Delta's safety record is excellent -- and after all, really getting there is what it is all about!  But getting there in the style you choose takes Delta and its myriad partners one step beyond.
